The Mediterranean Agri-Food Competence Center (MACC) is participating in the implementation of the European project titled “Boosting Circular Systemic Solutions through Virtual Regional Circular Economy Spaces” (Project acronym: CSSBoost, Project Number: 101135275). The project is co-funded at 70% by the European Union and 30% by own resources, with its main objective being to enhance circular economy solutions through the development and implementation of digital regional economies. This initiative aims to accelerate the transition towards an environmentally sustainable and circular economic model at local and regional levels.
As part of the project, special emphasis is placed on the development and application of digital tools and platforms that facilitate the implementation of circular economy strategies, with a particular focus on the agri-food sector.
Pilot Action: Production of Organic Matter and Biostimulants through Fava Bean Cultivation
MACC is contributing to the project through specific pilot actions, one of which focuses on the production of organic matter and biostimulants via fava bean cultivation.
📅 Study Duration: November 2024 – November 2027
🌍 Implementation Area: Local and regional levels
This initiative aims to enhance soil fertility, optimize the use of natural resources, and promote sustainable agricultural practices. The first fava bean plantings have already taken place, and in the coming period, the measurement of soil quality characteristics is expected to begin, following the scientific guidelines of the project team.
Expected Benefits
- Improvement of soil quality through natural enrichment processes
- Reduction of dependence on chemical fertilizers and enhancement of organic farming
- Contribution to the circular economy, aiming for sustainable natural resource management
- Development of a model of best practices to promote innovative agri-food solutions
MACC’s participation in CSSBoost reaffirms its commitment to fostering innovation and sustainable technologies, actively contributing to the creation of a resilient, efficient, and environmentally responsible agri-food ecosystem.
