Applications & Services

The MACC–SOIL Living Lab is a comprehensive platform for applied innovation in sustainable soil management, linking scientific knowledge with agricultural practice. Through targeted applications and services, it supports farmers, businesses, researchers and public bodies in addressing contemporary challenges relating to soil health, climate change and the sustainability of the agricultural economy.

The initiatives are being implemented as part of the Mediterranean Agrifood Competence Centre (MACC) and are in line with the objectives of the European Soil Mission.

Application: Agrogenius

Digital monitoring & decision support

The Agrogenius app utilises digital technologies, sensors and data analysis to monitor critical soil parameters and support evidence-based decision-making in agricultural management.

Services provided
  • Collection of soil data (moisture, temperature, conductivity, etc.)
  • Data analysis and the production of soil health indicators
  • Support for best practices in irrigation and inputs
  • Pilot schemes on actual agricultural land
Benefits
  • Cost reduction
  • Water conservation
  • Increased efficiency
  • Environmental sustainability.

Application: Fertiwool

Soil improvement & the circular economy

The Fertiwool app focuses on utilising natural by-products, such as sheep’s wool, as innovative soil-improving materials, thereby promoting the circular economy and sustainable agriculture.

Services provided
  • Application of natural soil improvers to the soil
  • Improvement in structure and moisture retention capacity
  • Gradual release of nutrients
  • Pilot trials on different soil types
Benefits
  • Improving soil fertility
  • Reducing water losses
  • Utilising local resources with a low environmental footprint

Application: Biostimulants

Biostimulants for healthy soils and resilient crops

The Biostimulants project focuses on the development, testing and evaluation of biostimulants that enhance natural soil processes and plant physiology.

Services provided
  • Experimental application of biostimulants to the soil or to the plant
  • Enhancing microbial activity and the root system
  • Assessment of drought and salinity tolerance
  • Reducing dependence on chemical inputs
Benefits
  • Improved nutrient absorption
  • Crop resilience
  • Sustainable production
