MACC at FOODTECH Greece 2025: Innovation and Technology in the Agri-Food Sector

The Mediterranean Agri-Food Competence Center (MACC) had a dynamic presence at FOODTECH Greece 2025, one of the most important food-industry exhibitions in Greece, highlighting technological innovation, modern equipment, and solutions that shape the future of the sector.

Knowledge Transfer and Integration of New Technologies

During the exhibition’s special discussion sessions, Dr. Evdokia Krystallidou, Head of the Innovation & Strategy Hub at MACC, presented the challenges and opportunities the new generation of producers faces in adopting modern technologies.

Dr. Krystallidou emphasized the importance of timely and effective knowledge transfer to young professionals, while highlighting the need for greater state involvement in the education of both producers and trainers. She also showcased MACC’s contribution to skills development and the promotion of innovation in the agri-food sector.

Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence

Mr. Panagiotis Skandamis focused on the significance of tools such as the Growth Predictor, stressing the crucial role of automation and data digitization from the laboratory all the way to field application.

Special emphasis was placed on the capabilities offered by Artificial Intelligence and Industry 4.0 technologies, particularly regarding traceability, nutritional quality, and food safety, as well as the challenges and opportunities accompanying the sector’s digital transformation.

Smart Labelling and Consumer Information

Mr. Vaggelis Vlachos highlighted the necessity of adopting “smart” applications in product labelling, emphasizing the importance of providing consumers with immediate, accurate, and reliable information in an era of rapidly evolving marketing and communication tools.

Innovative High-Value Products

Mr. Dimitrios Stamoulakis presented his entrepreneurial journey in the food sector, showcasing the importance of originality and innovation. His innovative product—olive oil enriched with propolis—is a characteristic example of a successfully developed hyper-food with high added value, combining two superfoods into a unique product with a distinct identity.
