MACC joins the Bio-based Industries Consortium, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable agri-innovation

The Mediterranean Agrofood Competence Center (MACC) is proud to announce its membership in the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC), the industry association that catalyzes public-private collaboration for a circular and bio-based Europe.

This milestone further strengthens MACC’s international presence and strategic role in shaping sustainable agri-food systems, building upon its active engagement in European innovation ecosystems such as the European Network of Living Labs (ENoLL) and the Agroecology Partnership—an initiative focused on living labs and research infrastructures for agroecological transition in Europe read more.

BIC brings together a unique mix of industry, SMEs, research organizations, and public bodies dedicated to replacing fossil-based raw materials with renewable bio-based alternatives. Through this collaboration, MACC aims to scale its proven innovations by integrating them into broader European circular economy value chains.

MACC’s Living Lab on Soil (MACCSOIL), located in Crete, is already a recognized model for bottom-up innovation. It engages farmers, researchers, policymakers, and businesses in co-developing solutions for soil regeneration, water efficiency, and digital agriculture. Through its new BIC membership, MACC will:

  • Promote circular bio-based innovations rooted in real farming needs.
  • Share knowledge from its Living Lab applications in precision agriculture and soil monitoring.
  • Contribute to policy shaping for sustainable value chains in Europe.
